Saturday Oct. 10, 2009 - On a sunny and colour-laden Thanksgiving - hard to imagine that for two weeks we've been in gales, 3 metre waves and a humbling train of storm cells complete with squall lines, thunder and lightning. The Bay decided to let us know who's the boss - and timmy for one got the message loud and clear.
Our Storm Gathering next weekend is near full! There are still a couple of beds, some tent spots and day passes - we've kept the discount to encourage the last minute club. If you were imagining a really fun end to the paddling season - let us know asap, I think we can give you that - it's one of those events where you'll kick yourself after in the bum (a good party trick) if you made the foolish decision to not come.
All boats/gear are on winter clearout pricing - we're open 'til monday evening - and then by chance or appointment after that. We're still renting - cause this is still the best time of year to be out there in my wee brain - but we might ask a few pointed questions like "do you know what yer doin'?" And....."have you packed your woolies?"
Nootka Sound BC
Right after the Stormy Gathering - 7 of us squallions are flying to the outer west coast for a trip we've been long dreaming of. We'll be "wet dropped" off a coastal freighter in Nootka Sound and the plan is to paddle, camp, get wet and surf, paddle, camp, get wet and surf, dryout - then camp and paddle and surf and get wet some more. I was a guide out there in the late 70's - back when a $300. R5 River Runner was fine to paddle and as long as you knew a bit more than the clients - you were ok. Whatever happened to that world - seemed simpler then. {rokintensedebate} |
